"Most people race to see who is
fastest.  I run a race to see who
has the most guts."
~ Steve Prefontaine
Carolina Mud Studios is the product of something I enjoy most in life:
creating art and sharing with others the things that inspire me.   I began
taking pottery classes my senior year at Elon University and have
continued taking classes over the past few years.  Pastels are my most
recent passion, as most of the works displayed on this website were
created in my home studio in NC.  Photography is an art I've grown to
love since childhood, although my passion is the candid world of
photojournalism as I prefer to capture people in natural poses and
environments.   It is my hope to someday sell the artwork displayed in
these galleries and spend a little more time each day doing something I
love.
John and I were  married in May of 2006 at Ocean
Isle Beach, NC and now reside in Morrisville, NC.
I am a graduate student at NC State working
towards a Master's of Science in Natural Resource
and Outdoor Recreation Management.  I hope
that by facilitating positive outdoor recreation
experiences and integrating environmental
awareness into education programs we can
preserve wilderness and our natural treasures for
generations to come.
HOBBIES
We delved into the world of distance running almost two years ago, and have
since completed four half-marathons, several trail races, and a marathon.
Favorite race?  The Muddy Buddy was a good time- nothing beats crawling
through a mud pit :)
Aside from running, we love anything outdoors.  We've backpacked in Olympic National Park, Glacier,
Shenandoah, Smokey Mountains, Assateague Island, the Kalalau trail along the Na'pali coast of Kauai,
and I backpacked to the summit of Mt. Kenya in 2002 .  I whitewater raft any chance I get, surf on the
playful Carolina waves in the summer, and hope someday soon to sail the Caribbean.
I spent much of my childhood exploring the outdoors and think it's a shame that many children
today have less time and freedom to explore nature.  I aim to promote adventure and exploration
in a new generation of children and encourage participation by adults so they can reap the
benefits of this important aspect of the human experience.  This connectedness, spirituality and
magic of experiencing life in the "now"  is something I strive to convey through my art and
profession.
